
Building on the partnership initiatives for prevention work with a focus on vulnerable groups, the Local Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings (LCCTHB) in the city of Sliven together with the "Initiative for Empathy" Foundation, held a screening of the short film "The Seaside".
Ten people with special needs were introduced to the dangers of falling into the modern form of slavery, focusing on human trafficking for sexual exploitation and forced prostitution. As part of the initiative, the attendants discussed the possibility of reporting a crime through the National Anti-Trafficking Hotline - 080020100
The film was provided to LCCTHB Sliven by the A21 Bulgaria Foundation. The director of the production is Christian Elliott, who has been committed to the cause of fighting human trafficking and protecting human rights for years.
According to the latest data from the European Commission, trafficking in human beings for sexual exploitation remains the most common form of trafficking. Almost three-quarters, or 72% of all victims in the European Union and 92% of victims of sexual exploitation are women and girls.
Traffickers exploit the particular vulnerability of people with disabilities for sexual exploitation, forced begging, and marriage of convenience.
