On June 9, 2022, in implementation of the "Program for Combating Human Trafficking and Protection of Victims - 2022", the Local Commission for Combating Human Trafficking - Veliko Tarnovo Municipality, in partnership with the National Commission for Combating Human Trafficking and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), held a regional training for health, education and labor mediators from Veliko Tarnovo region.
The event was implemented in the framework of the project "Raising Awareness of Local Communities in Areas with a Significant Roma Population on Asylum and Migration Issues", funded by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism and implemented by IOM.
The aim of the training was to raise the awareness of the participants about job opportunities in Europe and the realisation of the labour market in different European countries, the steps for safe migration and fair work, the risk and protection from being trafficked for labour and sexual exploitation, ways to protect yourself and useful contacts in case of need.
Most of the event took the form of a discussion - the participants presented different cases, problems and issues from their activities related to human trafficking and illegal migration. The important role of inter-institutional cooperation as well as preventive work with children from a very young age were highlighted as conclusions of the meeting.
The training was attended by 25 people - health, labour and education mediators from the municipalities of Veliko Tarnovo, Gorna Oryahovitsa, Lyaskovets, Pavlikeni, Svishtov, Zlataritsa, Elena and Strazhitsa.
