Training on "Trafficking in Human Beings: Causes, Identification and Protection of Victims" for Health, Education and Labour Mediators - Varna Region


On 31 May 2022, in implementation of the "Programme for Counteracting Trafficking in Human Beings and Protection of Victims - 2022", Section III "Training and Qualification of Personnel", the Local Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings - Varna, Directorate "Preventions", Varna Municipality, in partnership with the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), held a regional training for health, education and labor mediators from Varna region.

The meeting was implemented within the framework of the project "Raising awareness of local communities in areas with a significant Roma population on asylum and migration issues", funded by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism and implemented by IOM.

The aim of the meeting was to raise awareness of mediators on issues related to working in Europe and EEA, risk and protection from being in a situation of trafficking for labour exploitation, forced begging or sexual exploitation. The focus of the training was identification of victims of trafficking and specifics of working in a Roma community. Basic steps for safe migration were presented. In an open discussion, the problems that can be faced by all those seeking employment in different European countries were discussed, as well as who to turn to for help when problems arise.

The training was attended by 16 health, labour and education mediators from the municipalities of Varna, Aksakovo, Dolen Chiflik, Devnya and Provadia.
