Plovdiv Hosted a Regional Training for Health, Education and Labour Mediators from Plovdiv Region


The Local Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, Sofia held a regional training for health, education and labour mediators from Plovdiv Region.

The event took place on 19 May, in the Boris Hristov House of Culture. The initiative was organized jointly with the International Organization for Migration and implemented within the project "Raising awareness of local communities in areas with a significant presence of Roma population on asylum and migration issues", funded under the Norwegian Financial Mechanism and implemented by the International Organization for Migration.

About 30 health, education and labour mediators from Katunitsa, Kostievo, Kuklen, Parvomay, Plovdiv, Sadovo, Rakovski and Rozhen took part in the training.

The aim of the event was to contribute to raising awareness among the Roma population on the legislation governing asylum and migration, including the risk of abuse and exploitation in Bulgaria, the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA).

Attendees received valuable information on their rights and obligations when legally migrating to EU/EEA countries. They learned about migration-related topics such as human trafficking and smuggling, the risks of labour exploitation in the EU/EEA and protection from exploitation, conditions of stay and work, and access to social and health services, among others.
