The meeting discussed the role of local community leaders in engaging citizens and local institutions in preventing and protecting against exploitation in EU migration. The audience was introduced to the experience of the Italian partners as well as to the activities of the Local Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings/ National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, the Federation of Independent Trade  Unions in Agriculture, the Labour Inspectorate, the Montana Regional Administration, the Directorate of the Labour Office, youth mediators, etc.

So far in Bulgaria, the Project has trained more than 30 women as local labor mediators, who have subsequently held meetings with prospective and current mobile workers on their rights to decent working conditions, pay, and contacts abroad; how to identify fake job ads and where to seek help in case of abuse. Promotional leaflets and an information film on protection from labor exploitation were also produced and announced at the workshop.
