The Local Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and the Prevention Directorate - Varna Municipality, together with the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, join the global initiative "Blue Heart Campaign", organized on the occasion of the celebration of July 30 - International Day against Trafficking in Human Beings.
The symbol of the campaign is a blue heart, expressing the sadness of victims of trafficking. It reminds the world of the cold heart of those who buy and sell human beings. The colour blue shows the commitment of the United Nations to fight this crime that deprives people of their rights, their dignity and destroys their dreams.
Human trafficking is a crime that exploits women, children and men for multiple purposes. According to the International Labour Organisation, 21 million people are victims of forced labour worldwide. This estimate includes victims of trafficking for labour and sexual exploitation.
Every country in the world is affected by the trafficking of human beings, whether it is a country of origin, transit or destination for victims. Almost a third of all victims of THB worldwide are children, and women and girls make up 71% of victims, according to a UN report.
The aim of the campaign is to inform young people about the risks associated with trafficking in human beings, as well as to raise sensitivity among society towards victims and build intolerance towards the perpetrators.
The initiative takes place in the area of the Festival Complex and the alleys of the Sea Garden, and the ambassadors of the campaign are volunteers from the City Prevention Club, supporting the activities of the LCCTHB Varna at the Prevention Directorate, Varna Municipality.
Considering the epidemic situation in the country and the region and in order to comply with the enforced precautions, the volunteers are equipped with the necessary protective equipment provided by the Municipality of Varna.
In the framework of the campaign, information materials provided by the NCCTHB and the Prevention Directorate, Varna Municipality, are distributed.
