30 officers of the General Directorate "Border Police" were trained in Blagoevgrad

The local commission for combating trafficking in human beings - Blagoevgrad and the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings at the Council of Ministers, in partnership with the Municipality of Blagoevgrad, held specialized training on "Practical guidelines for identification and countering the crime of trafficking in human beings" on June 2, 2021.

The event was attended by 30 employees of the General Directorate "Border Police" from border police stations – Gyueshevo, Blagoevgrad, Kyustendil, Zlatarevo, Gotse Delchev, Petrich and Regional Directorate "Border Police" – Airports.

The training was implemented in the Hall "September 22" of Blagoevgrad Municipality and was opened by Mr. Lyuben Milev, Deputy Mayor for Public Policy, Security and Sport of Blagoevgrad Municipality and Chairman of the Local Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, who presented the role of the National and Local Commission as key partners of the judicial and law enforcement authorities in the fight against the crime.

Inspector Borislav Pergov from the Trafficking in Human Beings sector at The General Directorate Combating Organised Crime at the Ministry of Interior, introduced those present with the legal basis, the identification of victims and the distinction of trafficking in human beings from other criminal events.

Prosecutor Elitsa Kalpka, Deputy District Prosecutor of the District Prosecutor's Office, Sofia, Bulgaria Blagoevgrad presented the specifics in the conduct of interrogation of victims and the activities of the joint investigation teams.

Inspector Dimitrina Boyanova from the Department "Countering Smuggling and Crime across the State Border" at the General Directorate "Border Police", focused on the mechanisms of cooperation in dealing with injured persons.

In the last module of specialized training, participants discussed the challenges related to dynamic changes in the trends of the crime of trafficking in human beings.

The event is part of the activities of Section III "Training and qualification of personnel" by the Local Programme for Countering Trafficking in Human Beings and Protection of Victims for 2021 of the Local Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, Blagoevgrad.
