Member of the Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings of the Council of Europe trains specialists in the field of education from Plovdiv


In implementation of the Local Programme for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Protection of Victims in 2021, the Local Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings together with the Local Commission for Combating Anti-Social Acts of Minors – Trakia Region, Plovdiv held specialized training for professionals on the topic: "Internet space as a mechanism for involvement in human trafficking under conditions of social isolation and distance learning"

The same took place on 16 April (Friday) 2021 in the videoconferencing platform "Zoom". The initiative was attended by about 60 participants, including principals, pedagogical advisors and psychologists working in educational institutions from Plovdiv region.

The aim of the online event is to introduce education professionals to the problem of human trafficking and the risks for children and young people on the global web, especially in conditions of distance learning and social isolation. To present the new dimensions of human trafficking in the follow-up of the COVID-19 pandemic, including current trends and challenges, as well as the increased vulnerability of adolescents online to being trafficked by providing practical guidance and crisis intervention.

The lecturer of the training was Ms. Antoaneta Vassileva, a human rights expert and consultant with over 18 years of experience in combating human trafficking.

Ms. Vassileva is a member of the Group of Experts against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA), the monitoring mechanism of the Council Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings since 2019. Since the beginning of this year, she holds the position of First Vice President of GRETA.
