The Local Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings in Burgas organized a specialized training for policemen and social workers


 

On June 11th, 2019 in Burgas, training was held on the subject: "National referral mechanism for victims of trafficking in human beings and the role of the employees in the identification and support of the victims". The training was organized by the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and the Local Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings in Burgas with the support of the Hanns-Seidel Foundation.

The training was attended by 28 professionals from the Regional Police Directorate of Burgas; Children pedagogic room inspectors, representatives of the following sectors: Combating Organized Crime, Criminal and Security Police, Migration and Bulgarian identity documents, as well as representatives of the social services – Child Protection Department, CCS, shelter for temporary accommodation for victims of trafficking in human beings, Burgas.

Lecturer of the training was Mrs. Anna Nikolova - Chairperson of the ‘SOS Families at Risk’ Foundation, Varna and Manager of the Shelter for temporary accommodation for victims of trafficking in human beings in Varna.

The training focuses on the main aspects and role of the employees of the various structures represented in the Standard Operating Procedures for the identification, protection and assistance and social reintegration of the victims.

Within the training, three main points were identified: victim identification and referral to current services and programs, co-ordination of case handling and participation of victims in criminal proceedings. The themes were presented by alternating: a theoretical panel, illustration of practical examples of work with VoTs and case studies with practical assignments related to the specific role of the staff in the implementation of NRM. The services for victims of trafficking in human beings in Bulgaria, the support of the victims of trafficking in the criminal proceedings and the process of reintegration and the follow-up of the cases were presented.

As a result of the training it was revealed that the competence of the employees regarding the identification of victims of trafficking in human beings, the role of each institution in the identification and referral, the victim profile and the assistance and support activities has increased.
