The Local Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings in Sliven organized a specialized training for policemen and social workers


On June 10th, 2019 in Sliven, a specialized training was conducted for police officers from the Security and Criminal Police Sectors of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior - Sliven, social workers and members of the LCCTHB - Sliven, on the topic: "National referral mechanism for victims of trafficking in human beings and the role of the employees in the identification and support of the victims" with speaker Anna Nikolova – “Chairman of SOS families at risk” Foundation, Varna and manager of the Shelter for temporary accommodation for victims of human trafficking in Varna. 

The training is organized by the Local Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings - Sliven, together with the National Commission for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings (NCCTHB) and the financial support of the Hanns Seidel Foundation.

The main objective of the LCCTHB - Sliven is to achieve better and more effective coordination between the professionals involved in the process of identification, protection and referral, subsequent reintegration and monitoring of the cases under the National Referral Mechanism for Support of Trafficked Persons, as a framework for cooperation and responsibility of all interested parties to respect the human rights of trafficked persons and to provide effective care to the victims.

Within the framework of the training the objectives, the basic principles and standard operating procedures, laid down in the NRM, were presented, as well as the role of police officers and social workers in the identification, risk assessment and referral of the victims of trafficking, focusing on the approach and attitude towards the victims in this process.

An extremely important part of the specialized training was the work in groups on specific cases in which active part took members of the LCCTHB – Sliven; of the Regional Prosecutor's Office - Sliven; COCTC ("Combating organized crime" territorial sectors) Sliven, Yambol; the Regional Police Directorate (MoI) - Sliven and the Child Protection Department at the Social Assistance Directorate – Sliven.

In separate sessions the services for victims of trafficking in human beings, the support of the victims of trafficking in the criminal proceedings and the process of reintegration and the follow-up of cases were looked at.
