20% of the women in 16 villages in Pleven and Russe have become victims of human trafficking since 2007. This information was announced yesterday by Dessislava Georgieva, project coordinator at the Association for Family Planning for Health Services and Counteraction of Human Trafficking, cited by the Bulgarian National Radio. The victims were taken across the border for the purpose of sexual exploitation and most of them were 18 to 22 years old. “In a significant part of the cases, these are women, forced to travel by no other than their relatives: fathers, brothers, husbands, cousins,” said Georgieva.
